changing the face of aging
Susan Brooks
Research shows that shifting our mindset about aging can add 7.4 happy years to a person's life!

"We're still living with the old paradigm of age as an arch. That's the old metaphor: You're born, you peak at midlife & decline into decrepitude. A more appropriate metaphor for aging is a staircase. The upward ascension of the human spirit, bringing us into wisdom, wholeness and authenticity." ~ Jane Fonda, TedxWomen talk, "Life's Third Act," 2011

  • This was so rich! I loved all of it! I told Gary that I will have to climb Kilimanjaro also. And perhaps get on the cover of Elle in MY birthday suit; the Maye Musk nude was very tastefully photographed. I loved Beatrice Woods' comment about what keeps her young. Age is relative HAHA! Loved the story about your grandma; wish I had met her! "Elders" doesn't even begin to describe these women. "Way-Showers" may be a better term.

    ~ Petra Watjen

I absolutely LOVE your newsletter! You set my JOY on point!

    ~ Christine Gannon

  • Thanks for another insightful and inspiring newsletter. I appreciate how you come from your heart as well as your head. I also appreciate that you don't send me a newsletter several times a week. I read yours because I know it's full of valuable information and perspectives. Your newest topic, Changing the Face of Aging, is so important to me!

    ~ Lynn Murphy, Womenwhopushthelimits.com

Your message is awesome. I agree with you 100% about living life fully...and generously.

    ~ Jill Partridge

  • Love, Love, Love this! You are amazing and none of us "older women" are ready to stop, just change our path and realign our compasses. Thank you for all you do, you are an inspiration!

    ~ Lynn Lanoue-Dietrich

At 56 I am enjoying resting about aging. I want to move into the next chapters of my life awake, aware, and, of course, mindful. You and your newsletter help me expand my thinking about aging.

    ~ Jennifer Martin

  • Susan I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything you wrote! You're such an excellent writer! I nominated a dear friend as a "Modern Elder"! She's someone I admire and respect so much! I love your message in this newsletter....who am I NOW!!! Such a good and important question. I'm with you...I love the correlation you made to being a baby boomer, and the fact that we are rebels, and trendsetters...and we can change the future image of aging! Woooooooooooo hoooooooooooo! I LOVE it! I have no idea what's next for me. But, I know for sure that I want to stand for this theme of changing the perception of aging!!!

~ Janine Finney, Co-Author of "The Flip Flop CEO" and
    "Does the Shoe Fit?"

  • Your emails are always so inspiring. You are an incredible writer and I look forward to receiving and reading all your emails. You totally motivate to live and to live large! I like how you end your story below... "Just like the Jews, I would rather die trying than to miss the experience." That's just what I needed to hear today!

    ~ Delia Gomez

Yet another newsletter full of energy!

    ~ Barb White

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your story... how cool that you climbed to the top of the mountain. Even cooler, I love the memory with your son that came from that experience!

~ Janine Finney, Co-Author of "The Flip Flop CEO" and

It's always good to be reminded That every stage of life must be enjoyed and that we should never stop growing!

    ~ Margie Klein

  • This is the best newsletter, such sage advice and attitude coming when it's been so dark for everyone. Thank you for taking a forklift of inspiration and lifting us up!

    ~ Marcia Fine, Author

I admit to really giving your insights considerable thought. You ask such great questions, Susan.
